Is 10-Minute Trainer Right For You?

Review By Fitness Editor: James Atkins

It seems lately every time I turn on the television and see an “As Seen On TV” infomercial, it’s for the 10-minute trainer workout program. Apparently Beachbody (producer of 10 minute trainer) has been ramping up their advertising efforts for this once sizzling hot in home workout. But why all of the sudden are they putting so much emphasis on a workout routine that’s quite frankly been around for a long time now?

Originally launched about 3 years ago, the 10-minute trainer program was Tony Horton’s first major program since he released his infamous P90X program. Many thought this new workout would be a shortened version of P90X, but quickly learned that 10 minute trainer is nothing like P90X and really is not for exercisers who would be looking for eXtreme training.

The premise of 10 Minute Trainer is pretty simple…It’s all about time management and squeezing in as much exercise into a short period of time as possible, hence the “10-Minute” part of the name. To understand the “How” this program works you need to understand the make up of the DVD’s and what they’re intended to do.

10-Minute trainer Workout DVD’s Explained

This might come as a shocker to some, but guess how long each workout on 10-minute trainer is?…10 Minutes Long! That’s right all 5 workouts (on 2 DVD’s) are no more than 10 minutes long. This means if you added it all up, the entire program is about 50 minutes start to finish if you played each workout in sequential order.

THIS is where the secret lies with 10 minute trainer. A total of 50 minutes of exercise start to finish doesn’t seem too daunting does it? The real beauty is that if you have anywhere between 10 minutes to 50 minutes of time to devote to exercise you can use 10 minute trainer.

What Are The Workouts?

What makes each of the five 10 minute long workouts so effective is not them individually. The technique that’s mentioned many times throughout the program is called “Stacking” or “Super Stacking” if you want it to sound more exciting. Stacking in the sense that’s being used here is actually similar to how the word is used in general. See below for an explanation of how “Super Stacking” works.

What Is Super Stacking and How Does It Work?

With 10 minute trainer you begin by introducing yourself to one of the 10 minute workouts. With the passing of a little time, you master that first one, then you can later “stack” on a 2nd workout, after some time “stack” on the 3rd etc…..Over a 30 day period of time you should be able to build up to a 50 minute routine. This concentrated routine hits every area of your body, from your toes to the top of your head in a “stacked” 50 minute total workout. That’s called SUPER STACKING!

Do I need To Buy Any Equipment?

A major difference between 10 minute trainer and other programs like P90X, is that when you order it you don’t need anything else. The box that shows up at your home includes every piece of resource material, nutrition guide, and equipment you need, to not just start the program but finish it.

The program uses resistance training that utilizes a resistance band to help build up your strength. When you order the program you are given the option of choosing either a “heavy” resistance band or “medium.”

The program also includes an attachment to the resistance band that can be hooked to any door hinge to give you added resistance. It may look and feel a little odd at first, but once you get the hang of it, it can really take your 10 minute workouts to the next level.
